Lord Ayyappa Temple : The Hidden Gem

 

In the lively city of Lucknow, there’s a secret spot not many know about, Lord Ayyappa Temple. This place holds a long story from long ago.Ayyappan is a god in Hinduism who never married. He's usually shown sitting in a special yoga position with a bell hanging around his neck. His main temple is in Sabarimala, Kerala, where lots of people worship him. But there are also many temples for him in nearby states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Some people think Ayyappan has a connection to Aiyanar, a guardian god from Tamil Nadu's history.



 

The Surroundings

Ideally located, the temple is surrounded by protected forest, ecopark and educational institutions. The large neat and clean premises enriched by calm and peaceful ambience and positive energy vibrating in the compound is a unique experience for any visitor. Nearly four decades into its inception, the temple has earned name and fame as a unique shrine following the South Indian tradition of worship and culture particularly of Kerala and attracting swelling number of devotees from all over.

 

The Inside of the temple

The temple has white walls with embedded copper cups on it, people go and light up “Diyas” to get their wish fulfilled. The inside of the temple has beautiful designs carved into the walls. In the Center of the temple there is the statue placed of Lord Ayyappa,. People sit around there inside the temple and see the “aarti” happens every evening.


How & when to visit

The darshan timings are: Morning 6.00 am to 10.30 am. & evening 5.30 pm to 8.30. The temple can be reached by taxi/auto from Lucknow airport and from Lucknow-Charbagh railway station (12 Kms). Shared autos are also available from near the railway station to Gomtinagar Hussadia crossing from where it is 500 metres walkable distance to the temple.
